Forest School

Welcome to Forest School at Pewsey Primary School...

We are very lucky to have our own Forest School site within the school grounds.  Mrs Ross, our Forest School Leader, is continually working with the children to develop a site which allows them space, away from traditional classroom learning, to explore their natural surroundings. Forest School gives every child the opportunity to  learn more about themselves - challenge their fears, work on their emotional literacy and take managed risks to develop greater confidence and self-esteem!  Not every child will thrive in a classroom environment.  We believe that by offering Forest School activities, we allow every child the opportunity to find a way of unearthing their hidden talents and acquiring new skills in their quest to become the best that they can be.

The '8C's' of our Forest School

The focus of each session, either directly or indirectly, will be to develop these skills:

  • Communication
  • Creativity
  • Co-operation
  • Collaboration
  • Concentration
  • Competence
  • Confidence
  • Co-ordination

Quotes from our children:

" I love Forest School, it's fun to learn lots of new things and be outside". Florence, Year 2

" Today has been the best day of my life" Shannon, Year 4.

"Collecting wood for a fire and toasting marshmallows was my favourite thing today - as well as visiting the 'Belching Bog' " Eben, Year 4

"I've been looking forward to Friday all week, I can't wait to be at Forest School again" Millie, Year 3.

Forest School activities... toasting marshmallows, making damper bread, cooking popcorn over an open fire, smores, leaf and flower printing, building dens, making an olympic assault course, tower of hanoi, story stones, building a bow and arrow with a target, story telling, tree spirits, number games, matchbox challenge, elder/charcoal pencils, elder whistles, jewellery, outdoor games, planting shrubs and fruit trees, wildlife spotting, Andy Goldsworthy inspired art, habitat building and much much more...

Sessions run on Fridays, in small groups, taken by Mrs Ross, with the help of volunteers Mrs Ball and Miss Janes.  Your child will receive a letter from Mrs Ross with further information when it's their turn to attend.  Sessions may be morning or afternoon.  Mrs Ross has a supply of coats and wellies  - but children are asked to wear warm clothes and bring waterproofs and waterproof footwear if possible!

Thanks to two very generous donations from our PTA, and help from our talented parents, our Forest School site is getting better all the time...
